Head on Collision

story and photos Phil Henderson

Pastor André Yengdere was riding home on his motorcycle one Tuesday night in Chad when he had a head on collision with a truck.

The truck apparently drove right over him and the motorcycle.

Pastor André is a well-respected pastor and church planter in wife(640)_250Chad who works among unreached people. He has also recently helped to store MAF fuel on his small compound and was responsible for getting it to the airstrip when needed.

When MAF pilots Phil Henderson and David Pearce flew the 800km to go and pick him up the next morning, a team was still trying to get the motorcycle and the truck separated. Many were saying it was miraculous he was alive at all.

His femur was fractured in two places – in addition to the serious trauma suffered below the knee to his tibia.

It became very obvious that 12 hours bumping along the road would not have been a good plan.

So MAF stepped in. It took just two hours for David and Phil to fly him from Am Timan to N’Djamena and the treatment he desperately needed.

Pastor André has been working in the area for some time and people(640)_250people respect him for the stability and wisdom he brings, as can be seen by the number of people who came to see him off!

He is being cared for in the Renaissance Hospital and he is in better spirits. His wife and three other relatives were able to accompany him to N’Djamena.

There is optimism doctors will be able to save his leg. The latest is there were plans for surgery with rods and an external frame being fixed to the limb to stabilise the fractures.

Give thanks that MAF was able to step in and help in this time of need!
